As we near 2007 it is time to take a look back at the Audi happenings of the past year. Readers will be able to quickly see the news and events which dominated the world of Audi in 2006, as well as diving into each article for more comprehensive information.
We have also designated a single newsworthy item as the Audi Event of the Year. Whereas in 2005 it was the R8 racecar which went out in style with its final win at Le Mans, in 2006 it is the debut of the Audi R8 sportscar. Named for its racing brethren, the Audi R8 is an entirely different automobile for Audi. It was also one of the most highly anticipated Audi debuts we can ever remember.

A cult car, an icon the Audi TT, launched in the autumn of 1998 took the sports coupe segment by storm and sharpened the brand profile. Now the second generation of this successful model is making its debut.

October 2006 – Audi of America Launches European Delivery Program
Audi of America gets into the act by offering consumers the ability to order and take delivery of vehicles in Europe.
November 2006 – Two Audi Models Named as “Top Safety Pick” for 2007 by IIHS
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today named two Audi models as Top Safety Pick in their respective categories. The Audi A6 was the only car listed in the large car category, while the Audi A4 took honors in the midsize category.
December 2006 – Rupert Stadler to Succeed Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn
With Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn taking over as Chairman of the Board of Management of VOLKSWAGEN AG as of January 1, 2007, Rupert Stadler has been appointed as acting AUDI AG Chairman.
