With AudiWorld about to enter 2006 – and begin the celebration of its 10th Anniversary – we want to take a look back at 2005. Readers will be able to quickly see the news and events which dominated the world of Audi in 2005, as well as diving into each article for more comprehensive information.
We have also designated a single newsworthy item as the Audi Event of the Year. This year it’s Le Mans where Audi sent its R8 racecars out in style with yet another win. Audi has now built quite a substantial legacy at this most famous of races.
So dig right in to what will be the last major feature of the year on the pages of AudiWorld while we’re busy preparing for the upcoming Los Angeles and Detroit shows. Happy 2005 and best wishes to all of our readers for 2006.
January 2005 – Audi Announces 2004 as a Record Year
Audi set a new sales record in 2004, selling 779,441 vehicles to customers worldwide.
February 2005 – quattro Night
A celebration of 25 years of quattro all wheel drive, quattro night was an exclusive event hosted by Audi in Ingolstadt.
March 2005 – The Audi RS 4
quattro GmbH raises the bar once again with the next generation RS 4.
April 2005 – The New Audi A4 DTM
A completely new car was developed at Audi Sport for the 2005 DTM season due to production car model change.
May 2005 – Vorsprung durch Technik: 25 Years of Audi quattro
Four rings, seven letters, 25 years: Audi’s quattro technology is now celebrating a noteworthy anniversary. This article examines thye history of quattro all wheel drive in detail.
June 2005 – Le Mans 2005
Audi Event of the Year
Audi’s R8 captured Le Mans for the fifth time. AudiWorld sent a correspondent and covered the event in significant detail.
July 2005 – Master’s In Car Design with Audi
Milan’s Scuola Politecnica di Design announces a Master’s in Transportation Design to be held in partnership with Audi. The selected students will have the unique, unrepeatable chance of developing a concept car in close touch with the Audi Style Centre.
August 2005 – The Performance SUV: Audi Q7
After months of hints, partial photos and slow press leaks, the Q7 is finally revealed in all its glory.
September 2005 – Frankfurt Motor Show
This bi-annual event is probably the world’s largest auto show. AudiWorld covered it in full force.
October 2005 – Audi Claims Sports Car Grand Slam
For the sixth consecutive time, Audi won all three titles in the top class of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
November 2005 – Green Light for Audi R8 in Neckarsulm
The new Audi sports car will be called the Audi R8. Presented as the Le Mans quattro concept study two years ago at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi has approved building its new sports car. The market launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2007..
