Audi is once again setting standards in the full-size class with the seventh-generation A6. With a broad portfolio of innovations and a lightweight body featuring numerous aluminum components, the model series is writing another chapter of the A6 success story.

Body and design
The A6 Sedan has the sportiest proportions in its segment. The long engine hood, the low, taut roof line and the sharp lines create a dynamic overall impression. Up front, optional LED headlights underscore the distinctive appearance.

Thanks to an intelligent composite construction concept, the body is extremely lightweight, rigid and safe. Numerous aluminum components and high-tech steels are the backbone of Audi’s consistent lightweight design concept and lower the body’s weight. Depending on the version, the business sedan weighs up to 80 kilograms (176.37 lb) less than the previous model. The A6 2.0 TFSI has a curb weight of just 1,540 kilograms (3,395.12 lb).

Interior
The sinewy style of the exterior design carries over to spacious interior of the Audi A6. Every detail documents the care with which Audi builds cars. Every single material is carefully selected and finished. The front seats are available with optional ventilation and massage functions. An efficient deluxe automatic air conditioning system and the MMI radio advanced control system come standard. MMI navigation plus with MMI touch and a head-up display that projects the most important information onto the windshield are available as options.

Powertrain
Eight powerful and highly efficient four- and six-cylinder engines are available for the A6. The three gasoline and five TDI engines produce between 130 kW (177 hp) and 230 kW (313 hp).

The 2.0 TDI is a particularly fuel-efficient variant. When paired with the manual transmission, it consumes only 4.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (48.00 US mpg), which corresponds to only 129 grams of CO2 per kilometer (207.61 g/mile). The top-of-the-line engine is the 3.0 TDI with twin turbochargers. The sonorous and cultivated V6 diesel powers the A6 with 230 kW (313 hp) and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque.

Engine lineup:

  • 2.0 TFSI with 132 kW (180 hp)
  • 2.8 FSI and 2.8 FSI quattro with 150 kW (204 hp)
  • 3.0 TFSI quattro with 228 kW (310 hp)
  • 2.0 TDI with 130 kW (177 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI quattro with 150 kW (204 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 230 kW (313 hp)

Audi offers the A6 with a wide range of drivetrains. Depending on the engine, choices include a six-speed manual, the continuously variable multitronic and the sporty seven-speed S tronic. The top-of-the-line diesel is paired with an eight-speed tiptronic. All transmissions contribute to efficiency with their wide gear spread and low internal friction.

Power flows to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the engine. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system features torque vectoring for superior traction, stability and dynamics. It is perfectly complemented by the sport differential, which actively distributes the power between the rear wheels.

Chassis
The chassis combines superior comfort with sporty precision in the A6. Its suspension is made of aluminum; the power steering features an electromechanical drive. The big sedan rolls on wheels measuring between 16 and 20 inches in diameter, behind which are powerful brakes.

All front-wheel drive versions of the A6 feature ESC with an electronic limited slip differential, which prevents understeer to make the handling even sportier and safer. The Audi drive select driving dynamics system comes standard with all engine variants. Audi also offers dynamic steering and the adaptive air suspension with variable damping as options.

Equipment
The navigation system MMI navigation plus with touchpad control works intelligently together with the optional driver assistance and safety systems in the A6. The Bluetooth car phone online connects the A6 to the Internet. A WLAN hotspot provides the connection to mobile end devices, and the driver can use the tailored services of Audi connect. The top of the hi-fi line is the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System.

The Audi pre sense safety system can in many situations reduce the severity of accidents and their consequences, or even avoid them all together. The Audi active lane assist helps the driver to keep the A6 on course whereas Audi side assist helps with changing lanes. Additional high-end features include the night vision assistant with marking of detected pedestrians, speed limit detection and the parking assistant.

Audi A6 hybrid
The Audi A6 hybrid is a parallel hybrid producing a combined total of 180 kW (245 hp) of system output and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) of system torque. Its combustion engine, a 2.0 TFSI with 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque, works together with an electric motor producing 40 kW and 210 Nm (154.89 lb-ft) of torque. The electric motor sits directly behind the TFSI and in front of the modified eight-speed tiptronic. The transmission delivers the power to the front wheels.

The lightweight and compact lithium-ion battery is located in the trunk. It provides 1.3 kWh of nominal energy and 40 kW of power. It can be cooled two different ways: with air blown from the passenger compartment by a fan and via a separate cooling circuit coupled to the deluxe automatic air conditioning system.

The Audi A6 hybrid can drive purely on electric power up to a speed of 100 km/h (62.14 mph) and at a constant 60 km/h (37.28 mph) has a range of up to three kilometers (1.86 miles). It can be driven with just the combustion engine or in hybrid mode. It recovers energy during braking. The electric motor supports the combustion engine during strong acceleration. Its standard fuel consumption is just 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers (37.94 US mpg).

Audi A6 Avant
Every detail demonstrates the full range of Audi’s high-tech competence. The flowing lines with the relatively flat D-pillars visualize its sportily progressive character.

The same standard highlights characterize both the Avant and the sedan: the lightweight body with its intelligent mix of materials, the aluminum chassis, the electromechanical power steering and the Audi drive select driving dynamics system. Audi also offers the A6 Avant with optional LED headlights, the adaptive air suspension with variable damping and the new dynamic steering upon request.

There are no differences in the engine lineup. Three gasoline and five TDI engines combine supreme power with high efficiency and cultivation.

Engine lineup:

  • 2.0 TFSI with 132 kW (180 hp)
  • 2.8 FSI and 2.8 FSI quattro with 150 kW (204 hp)
  • 3.0 TFSI quattro with 228 kW (310 hp)
  • 2.0 TDI with 130 kW (177 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI quattro with 150 kW (204 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 230 kW (313 hp)

Depending on the engine, the new A6 Avant drives off the assembly line with either a six-speed manual, the seven-speed S tronic, the multitronic or the eight-speed tiptronic. In addition to front-wheel drive, all models with engines producing 150 kW and above are available with quattro permanent all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. The sport differential is available as an option.

Equipment such as the head-up display, front seats with ventilation and massage functions and the ambient lighting make driving the Audi A6 even more pleasurable. The A6 Avant can be equipped with all of the brand’s assistance and safety systems. The wide range of infotainment modules and services under the keyword Audi connect is likewise available.

Audi A6 allroad quattro
The universal talents of the A6 allroad quattro expand the operating range of the A6 Avant – it doesn’t stop just because the asphalt does. Its body sits six centi-meters (2.36 in) higher than with the Avant. Stainless steel covers protect the underbody at the front and rear. Some bolt-on parts are finished in a contrasting color. Audi also offers a full paint finish as an option.

There is a choice of five powerful and highly cultivated V6 engines available for the A6 allroad quattro – one TFSI gasoline engine and four TDI units. All are three-liter engines with forced induction and direct injection.

Engine lineup:

  • 3.0 TFSI quattro with 228 kW (310 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 150 kW (204 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro with 180 kW (245 hp)
  • 3.0 TDI quattro with 230 kW (313 hp)

One highlight of the model series is the standard adaptive air suspension. It lowers the body by 15 millimeters (0.59 in) at high speed; the body is raised by 35 millimeters (1.38 in) at the push of a button. Furthermore, the driver can select a lift mode at low speeds. An additional ten millimeters (0.39 in) of ground clearance enables the Audi A6 allroad quattro to also handle major irregularities in the road surface.
