A triple success for Audi, two further titles for Seat and Lamborghini: this is how the readers of the German car magazine “Auto Zeitung” voted in the “Auto Trophy 2004″. The Audi models A4, A6 and A8 picked up three of the year’s most coveted awards. “Auto Zeitung” readers chose the three Audi saloons as the winners of the Auto Trophy awards in the categories midsize class, executive class and luxury class. The Lamborghini Murciélago and the Seat Altea were also successful, being voted best import cars in their respective categories.
Journalists at the “Auto Zeitung” magazine, which is published in Cologne, counted more than 84,000 votes. These were submitted by their own readers as well as those of the magazine “TV Movie”, which is also published by Heinrich Bauer Verlag.
The Audi A8 picked up 28.2 percent of votes in the luxury class, almost twice as many as the runner-up. The rest of the high-quality field of competitors finished some considerable way behind. This was the A8’s second win after 2003.
An even higher percentage of the vote went to the new Audi A6 in the executive class: 34.7 percent of all participants chose this new executive saloon as their favourite in this category, putting it almost 13 percentage points ahead of the runner-up. The Audi A4, the winner in the midsize class category, collected 23.2 percent of readers’ votes. This put it, too, clearly ahead of both its premium competitors from Germany.
The Audi brand has now won the coveted prize of the Auto Trophy 25 times in the 17-year history of these awards.
