Premium means the finest in style – the new Audi A4 displays its noble character in its equipment too. It leaves the production line with one of three equipment lines installed – Attraction, Ambition or Ambiente. Each of these can be combined with any engine. All versions have a very complete specification, including automatic air conditioning, an audio system, daytime running lights and an automatic boot lid release, but a wealth of luxury extras are available to enhance the new saloon model still further.

The basic equipment line is ‘Attraction’, a modern interpretation of the A4 theme that is full of character and gives this model from the brand with the four-ring emblem a generous, high-quality specification. Standard items include electrically heated and adjustable exterior mirrors, central locking with radio-operated remote control, variable-height front seats, four electric side windows, an outside temperature display and illuminated vanity mirrors. 16-inch alloy wheels emphasise the sporty character of the saloon with four-cylinder engines; the six-cylinder models have 17-inch aluminium wheels.

In the interests of safety, the Audi A4 Attraction has six airbags. As well as two at the front, with an adaptive operating principle that ensures a particularly high level of safety, there are front sidebags and windowbags. Isofix mountings permitting a modern child’s seat to be attached quickly and safely are a free-of-charge option.

There are three-point seat belts for every occupant of the car, with belt tensioners and force limiters at the front. Daytime running lights ensure that the new A4 can always be seen quickly by other road users. For models with a six-cylinder engine, the high-tech tyre pressure monitoring display is standard equipment.

Part of the supreme character of the new A4 is that it has many features derived directly from the luxury car class. The boot lid opens at the press of a button, and the electromechanical parking brake is a great step forward for the user compared with the traditional lever mechanism. Automatic air conditioning keeps the climate inside the car pleasant at all times.

The chorus radio also supplied with the Attraction equipment line has a CD player, eight speakers and a 6.5-inch monitor screen. Last but not least, the intelligent key acts as a memory chip for the user’s preferred personal settings and vehicle data.

‘Ambition’ is the second equipment line – the programme for the sporty A4 owner. Its most striking feature are the exclusive 17-inch diameter cast aluminium wheels, shod with 225/45 tyres. Sports suspension lowers the body and makes the already agile handling even more dynamic.

Inside the A4 Ambition, there are gleaming hologram-look aluminium inlays. The driver information system display, which is standard whichever engine is chosen, is located between the two large instrument dials. Sports seats upholstered in Empore cloth and a three-spoke leather-covered sports steering wheel round off the sporty Ambition line.

The third decor and equipment line is ‘Ambiente’, with the main focus on comfort, convenience and style. In this guise, with the four-cylinder engine the A4 runs on 16-inch cast alloy wheels of seven-arm design with size 225/55 tyres, while the six-cylinder versions have 17-inch wheels. Its seats are upholstered in Arkana, a particularly elegant cloth; the front seats can be heated. The acoustic Audi parking system makes it easier to reverse the car safely, and cruise control is fitted so that constant journey speeds can be selected and maintained. A four-spoke leather-covered multifunction steering wheel and a deluxe front centre armrest with two 12V power sockets are welcome features. A high-gloss package gives the body extra sparkle, and a lighting package does the same for the car’s interior.

For the enthusiastic driver: S line

Customers with a dynamic approach to life and to driving their cars will certainly be interested in the extra-sporty S line, which will be introduced at the beginning of 2008. The choice covers an exterior package, which concentrates on small but visually effective highlights, and a sport package.

This comprises many attractive features, including numerous modifications inside the car, sports suspension with firmer settings, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels and two exclusive body colours, Misano Red and Monza Silver. The products available from quattro GmbH include exclusive types of leather, a wood-trimmed and leather covered steering wheel and Rear Seat Entertainment.

For those who plan to drive the new A4 in a particularly sporty way, there is a wide range of individual options. As well as two types of sports suspension, they include various Audi drive select modules incorporating dynamic steering and damping control. The selection of alloy wheels covers diameters from 16 to 18 inches. Safety in the event of tyre problem is enhanced by the temporary spare wheel and the tyre pressure monitoring system.

Customers with an active lifestyle will be interested in the luggage compartment and storage packages, the 230 Volt power socket, the folding rear-seat backs and the load-through hatch with ski bag. Audi can also supply a detachable trailer tow hitch, and in the lighting area there are xenon plus headlights, the adaptive light cornering system and a light and rain sensor as further options.

Audi offers an extensive range of optional packages under the heading of passive safety, including sidebags for the outer rear seats, an anti-theft alarm and Isofix child seat mountings for the front passenger’s seat, coupled with airbag deactivation.

Perfect comfort: the choice of seats

In the A4 good seats are one of the keys to in-car comfort, but as in many areas, good is not the ultimate word. For additional journey pleasure, front seat heating and electric position adjustment – with a memory function if requested – are available, but also sports seats and climate-controlled comfort seats. This is not the end of Audi’s options list, which includes an electrically adjustable lumbar support, the deluxe front armrest and heating for the outer rear seats.

Journeys aboard the new A4 can have their already pleasant climate enhanced by the three-zone automatic air conditioning, an independent heating and ventilation system for use when the car is parked and a sliding sunroof. The rear seat area can be protected against strong sunlight by electric and manually operated roller blinds. Other comfort and convenience options include the extended Audi hold assist parking brake function, cruise control, the driver information system, the ‘advanced key’ for convenient access to the car, the garage door opener and the automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror.

The extra luxury of advanced technology is at the disposal of the owner who specifies the assistance systems – the Audi parking system, which is available in three increasingly well-equipped versions, Audi lane assist and Audi side assist, which warns the driver of the potential risk if the car deviates from the chosen lane. The adaptive cruise control system not only maintains a constant speed but also keeps the car at a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

In the communication and infotainment area, Audi has a complete modular-element system to offer. It begins at audio level with the concert and symphony radios, and extends to the Audi sound system and the high-end audio system from Bang & Olufsen. Features such as digital radio (DAB) reception, the Audi music interface with a mobile iPod and a speech dialogue system complete this extensive programme.

With two navigation systems, a TV tuner and various mobile phone interfaces, including an elegant, fully integrated Bluetooth solution, the new A4’s multimedia capabilities will satisfy the most demanding user. Many of its functions can be controlled from one of the three- or four-spoke multifunctional steering wheels. Shift paddles for the automatic transmission can be ordered as an option with the three-spoke sports steering wheel.
