The opening round of the 2015 VLN Championship was cut short after the #23  NISMO Nissan lifted off of the track at the Flugplatz, dragged its tail off of the track, then proceeded to cartwheel over the tires, and catch-fence. Unfortunately the car landed in an are where spectators were present, resulting in one fatality, and other injured spectators. The driver of the Nissan, Jann Mardenborough was not seriously injured fortunately.

For Audi, at the time the race was halted, the all new #15 R8 LMS of Audi Sport Team Phoenix had worked its way up to 5th place for its first time running a race, and the #37 Audi Sport WRT car was in 24th place.
