Registering for a Forum account
You do not need a registered account in order to read the Forums. However if you would like to make a new post or reply to an existing post you must be registered. Registration is free and requires a valid e-mail address.
The link to register is located at the very bottom of any main Forum listing page, or you can click here.
The first registration step is choosing a Screen Name (can be your own name or a handle you wish to go by on the forums). Input your Screen Name and e-mail address. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail. You must follow the directions in this e-mail to complete your registration. After you have confirmed your registration you may login with your e-mail address and password and begin posting.

Making a Forum posting
Once you have registered and are logged-in you can make a posting by going to the very bottom of the Forum within which you wish to post. Here you will find the posting dialogue box. Alternatively there is a link at both the very top and the very bottom which will reposition your page to the posting dialogue box.

Forgotten password
To retrieve a forgotten Forum password you must know your registered e-mail address. Go to this link: http://account.audiworld.com/forgotpassword.phtml

Unvalidated account (cannot login after registering)
When attempting to login to the forums you may get a message that says, "Your account has not been validated. An email was sent when you created your account with AudiWorld. In the email were some instructions that you haven't finished yet. Once you finish validating your account, you will be able to post messages on the forums and upload pictures to the Picture Poster."
To have the validation e-mail remailed to you click here.

Moderators
Moderators are responsible for the content in the Forums. They may delete, lock or mark posts as off-topic. If you need to contact a moderator please e-mail abuse@audiworld.com.

Cookies
AudiWorld sets a cookie on your browser. This is used to personalize the AudiWorld website for you and as a convenience so you don't need to type in your email address and
password each time you post. You must have cookies enabled to be able to use the account features of AudiWorld and post to the forums.

Forum Preferences
The link to the Forum Preferences is always found at the bottom of any Forum page near the posting dialogue box or you may click here. Within Preferences you may: 1) Edit your password, e-mail address or screen name; 2) Manage your signature; 3) Change the way that the Forums appear.

Formatting messages using bold, italics, etc.
You can modify your text with various HTML tags. Make sure you use both a starting tag and a close tag.
<b>Bold</b>
<i>Italic</i>
<u>Underline</u>
<font color="red">Colored Text</font>
<big>Larger Text</big>
<small>Smaller Text</small>
Superscript
Subscript
Advanced Formatting
Any HTML tags that are not explicitly allowed (those in the list above) are automatically converted into the corresponding SGML entities to appear as you typed it with no special processing by the client. This allows you to type in things like "It's the < of 2 evils" and it will display correctly.
Also, some SGML entities are reverse processed. Normally all & sign's are converted into & to display correctly, but some tags we specifically convert "backwards" to display correctly. Here is the full list the forum software understands:
& &
< <
> >
© ©
° °
½ ½
¼ ¼
If you don't understand the advanced information then it probably doesn't apply to you. No worries.

Signatures
You may specify a unique signature that will be included when you post either a new topic or a reply. To manage your signature go to the Forum Preferences.
You can use a single picture or HTML links in your signature. Here is the required HTML format:
Picture: <img src="http://www.location_of_your_pic.com/your_pic_name.jpg">
Link: <a href="http://www.your_link.com">link text></a>
Please limit the size of your signature to a reasonable community standard. Larger pictures may be deleted at AudiWorld's discretion. We may also delete pictures which could be deemed sexually explicit or otherwise unsuitable for viewing in a professional setting (i.e. users browsing at work).
You can also hide signatures by clicking the appropriate button within your Forum Preferences.

Adding a link in a message
To add a link to a message use the link box in the posting dialogue area. If you only put a URL in the URL box then the link will appear as that entire URL. Alternatively you can name your link by adding a word or phrase in the "Link Text" box.

Using the PicturePoster
The AudiWorld PicturePoster can be used host your pictures online for use at AudiWorld. To use the PicturePoster find the link at the top or bottom of any Forum page. Note you must be registered in order to use the PicturePoster.
Inside the PicturePoster you'll find a link to Upload. All items uploaded through the Picture Poster become the property of AudiWorld and are subject to deletion or modification.
Click on the "Browse..." button and locate the picture to be uploaded from your computer. Click the picture file. Click "Open". The file name will now appear in the box. Click the "Upload" button. The picture will be uploaded and you will get a URL for the picture (in case you want to post it in the Forums).
If you go back to your PicturePoster you can now delete or rename pictures. You will also see thumbnails of all of your pictures. To get the URL for any picture simply click on it to display the full size version. Now right click and select "Properties". The URL is displayed.
If a picture already appears on the Internet please do not upload it to the AudiWorld PicturePoster. Just find the URL for the picture where it already resides and use that URL. To find a picture's URL you must right click on the picture and select "Properties". You will then get information about the picture, including its web location. Click here for an example in Internet Explorer or click here for an example in Netscape.
Note that pictures uploaded to the AudiWorld PicturePoster can only be linked from AudiWorld.com. That means that you will not be able "call" this picture from other websites (for instance other forums).
Note also that we will actively delete photos which include nudity or other objectionable material. Do not upload porn to the AudiWorld PicturePoster.

Post a picture
There are two ways to add a picture to a Forum posting. The first is to use the box in the posting dialogue called "Optional Image URL". If you put the URL to a picture in this box then it will appear within your post.
The second way is to use the appropriate HTML within the body of the message itself. This can be useful for posting multiple pictures in the same post. Here is the sample code:
<img src="http://www.the_location_of_your_pic.com/your_pic_name1.jpg">
<img src="http://www.the_location_of_your_pic.com/your_pic_name2.jpg">
<img src="http://www.the_location_of_your_pic.com/your_pic_name3.jpg">
Or if your photos are in the AudiWorld PicturePoster then the sample code might look like this:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2/your_pic_name1.jpg">
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2/your_pic_name2.jpg">
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2/your_pic_name3.jpg">
Note: if a picture already appears on the Internet please do not upload it to the AudiWorld PicturePoster in order to include it into a post. Rather you should link to the picture from its existing location. To find a picture's URL you must right click on the picture and select "Properties". You will then get information about the picture, including its web location. Click here for an example in Internet Explorer or click here for an example in Netscape.

Marking posts as off-topic
If you choose to make a posting which is not on-topic for the forum in which you are posting then please designate it as off-topic using the "off-topic" checkbox in the posting dialogue area. This way users who have chosen not to view OT messages (in their Forum Preferences) will not see those posts.
Note that if you do not mark your OT posts as such then you may receive reminder e-mail when posts are subsequenty marked OT by a moderator.

Moderators deleting OT posts
Moderators may at their sole discretion delete posts which, although marked OT by the reader, do not appear to have a meaning or purpose.
Examples could be posts with just a title, but no text, where the message itself cannot be understood by the average reader. Use of the forums as a means of real-time chat could also be an example.

Editing your posts
You may edit posts to correct mis-spellings or other information. Go to your post and use the "edit" link on the right hand side. Make edits in the posting dialogue box and then click on the "Update Message" button. Note that moderators have access to all previous versions of your messages.
