Default '01 A4 System too lean issues. Help?

Hey there,

So I am new to this forum as well as the Audi scene so please go easy on me hahaha.

I just recently bought a 2001 A4 Quattro as my first car and there's a few issues with it. When I bought the car the guy told me that it had a boost leak and that was the only thing that was wrong with it. I didn't think that was an issue since at the time, I thought it would just be a vacuum line or something small, since he said he replaced the MAF. So I drove it home and it seemed fine.

I let it sit in my garage for about 2 1/2 months because of school, and saving money to get it on the road in time for spring and just this week took it out.

When I first started it the car shuddered and stalled. Did this about 5 times until it could hold idle, but even then it was dipping under 750 rpms.

Check engine light came on so I threw my scanner on it and it gave me the system too lean code (not too sure what #), cylinder 2 & 4 mifire.

I whipped it around the block pretty hard for about 20 minutes and there was no more idle surge and it was back to normal, running fine! Put some 94 in it and let it sit. The next day I started it again and same idle surge same story. Ive done this for 3 days now and its the same thing over and over. Also while driving it, when I released the throttle to change gears the car would violently accelerate for about half a second. Almost as though it was turbo lag but extreme.

Anybody ever have this issue before? If so, what was the culprit? How did you clarify it?

Thanks in advance!

Just went through something similar with my 01' a4 yesterday. If I were you I'd print out a vacuum diagram and go through and check all your T's and fittings and make sure nothing is broken. Fortunetly I didn't have to for mine, the leak was big enough I could hear it hissing and found the broken T within minutes.
