Default Overheating issue

97 a4 started overheating a couple weeks ago. Been looking at a lot of forums that seem to answer the problem but then my car contradicts the answers. So heres what i have going on..... It runs great for about 20-30 min and then coolant temp slowly starts to rise passed midway point....from there it seems like 4 minute intervals until it hits the max temp....when i changed the thermostat last week we emptied most if not all coolant out of the car, unless there is more the radiator even after res. Is empty, idk. Im under the assumption that the coolant is circulating through the system because when i pulled the cts yesterday coolant spilled over. I can feel coolant run through the hose to radiator after i turn the car off....i guess i really dont know...first audi so im stumped....i inted to change cts this week.

I had this happen on my 98 A4. The water pump on these is still plastic impeller, and it will crack and under heavier load it will slip and cause overheat. Remove the thermostat again and peer inside and see if the impeller is solid, and not cracked or slipping on the shaft.

I was really praying you wouldbt say that as i cant afford a fix like that until tax time.....but i am taking front clip off tonight to flush the radiator so while im doing that i will take a look and see if thats the issue.

Pumps are cheap, unfortunately you have to remove the timing belt and the pulley for the Aux shaft to get all the bolts.
