Default Rookie Tuner: Old Engine (with mods) startup advice.

I have just been given a 2000 Audi TT 180hp Quattro, and I am new to self tuning cars. The Car has not been started in 10 years . I have a grasp of all the introductory methods of attempting to start an old engine. My problem is that the car has an APR stage 3+ kit, and I have no knowledge of easing a tuned turbocharged motor back from the dead without damaging the car. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Should be no different then a stock motor ( would be cool to hear the story behind it sitting so long and how you got it). If it wasn't prepped for storage then the whole fuel system has to be gone threw. Drain the tank if its not sludged up then flushing it may be fine , fuel filter , remove the fuel rail/injectors and have them cleaned/tested at a qualified shop , flush the coolent , change t stat and I would change the timing belt and anything rubber in the engine bay . Brakes should also be gone through . Run high octane for the stage 3 set up

How's the oil look? Any record of how long it was used? I'd be inclined to change to a nice, thin oil (as VWAG recommends) like 0W-30, full synth meeting vw spec 503.whatever, before startup. Not sure how the filter is oriented on this particular car, but I always pre-fill mine 3/4 full because my 1.8t's filter mounts at about a 45 degree angle; any fuller and it spills during installation.
The oil to the turbo is my biggest concern; you may want to disconnect the ICM, remove fuel pump fuses, or take out the plugs and let 'er crank to get the oil pressure up (this would also give you the opportunity to spray a little lube into each cylinder - just make sure it's silicone-free, to save the cats). You may think "oh, it's been sitting so long it'll need to crank a long time, therefore oil pressure will be up" but remember it's a loop of fuel injection; the injectors will have fresh fuel before you turn the key.
I agree we need the backstory.
Good luck,
Tom

Default Car Backstory

It actually was a show car during 2002, it won best European car at two car shows in the southwest division and was about to be in euro tuner. The tuning shop that was working on this car was in to a lot of illegal stuff (drug trafficking) and federal agents seized all the cars most of them not put back together (this Audi was one of them), and the owner was denied access to the store to gather his belongings. The owner could not track down or afford to get the car back to normal. So it sat in a barn from 2002 to 2014. At the moment I have it running well, the rear o2 sensor is on its way out, and the oil feed line to the turbo is slightly leaking. I have a boost, oil pressure, and oil temp gauge and everything looks very normal. I am very nervous about the timing belt due to age, but I am very confident in the health of the motor and transmission.

I leave the hood cracked because I don't trust the cable.

Damn !! Love it plus the older o es are getting thin at least in my area . Cool story . So I'm guessing you owned the storage spot ? No trouble getting a title ? I used to work at a garage where the owners frien who got 20 locked up had left an old /mint 800hp 930 turbo Porsche hidden in the back corner of the shop . The shop is now closed last time I visited NASHVILLE and I always wondered who ended up with that amazing car ?? Another friend just realized the old lady across the street had a 71 stingray her husband left in the garage when he passed away 10 years ago and he scored it for 4k and it's a convertable /manual , mint and built like crazy . It will be on ebay soon expected to bring 20k

No title problems, but finding little parts to the car is a hassle. Center caps for wheels, glovebox for cheap, and rebuilding the instrument cluster are a pain. But it is fun, yet challenging. The weird part is worrying about every little thing you could overlook. I just noticed the valve cover gasket and cam seal is leaking and I hate to think about messing around near the timing chain. Are you working on anything at the moment?
