Default New to the Audi Community

I posted this in the A4 forum and was, quite sarcastically I might add , prompted to this forum. Below is the original message.

Hello all,

I am the proud new owner of a 1997 A4 2.8 quattro (pictures to come.) I know its not the 30V, but its pretty quick as it is and I'm happy. The car has pretty high miles (125k), but my bimmer had 175k when I got rid of it, mileage doesnt scare me on German cars and know the previous owner so Im confident it was taken care of. Anyway, I just had a few questions. First, Im coming out of a 1994 BMW 325is that had a chip and a K&N, so the A4 is still a bit sluggish to me, so Im wanting to probably do the same modifications or something similar in performance/price to the A4 and was seeking some suggestions on both parts and brands, the K&N is an automatic though. Second, I was reading on this website that the 2.8 came standard with variable valve timing, a feature that I absolutely loved on my BMW, but I dont notice the same kick on the Audi at high RPMs than I did on my 325, is the system just different or is it nonexistant? Third, 1st gear is obscenely short on the Audi, has someone messed with it or is that the way it was off the assembly line?

Default Check out UrS4's mods by clicking on the Abnormally Aspirated link at the top of this forum.

I have his complete induction kit and am quite impressed. Check my site (click the sig) and pic poster for more pics.

You can also follow along with the Intake Manifold Porting Workshop which UrS4 has been posting. Click the link in my sig to follow along.

Default VVT is non-existant. It has "variable intake geometry".

Which is simply two different paths in the intake manifold and is switched between the two just over 4k rpms. And yes first is short.

Default 2x4's are the key ;-)

BTW, you failed to post pics of or mention all my other little tricks...

*installed factory Aux gauges with FACTORY trim
*fixed my own seat heater switches/bulbs (unlike you people who'd proclaim that it's impossible & fork over $80 for a new one)
*Searched and found OE 10spoke rims & fitted with exceptional winter tires
*diagnosed, found, and fixed a tricky fuel leak
*exhaust
*TORE apart most of my bottom & front end in order to replace BOTH upper and lower oil pans (due to a collision which was my own stupid fault.) Do you guys even know what an oilpan is???
*I also do my own tune-ups.

so... where you folks throw money away for simple tasks, I save it and get just as good service. So don't patronize me about body kits, IT'S NOT ALL I DO TO MY CAR. go back to talking about floor mats & xenon bulbs. g'dday

Default & anyhow, those ppl below are the exception. ne1 who knows of this place

obviously has a higher regard for self-improvment. I even hold lurkers in this regard. So ModifiedA4, turbodog vh, and everyone else who chooses to "look but not touch", you all are excluded from my brash generalization. There is obviously some reason why you choose to read this forum... and it's NOT to discuss your new foglamps or turbo upgrades. Sorry to have offended those which I did not intend to be.
