Default what is the sensor in the radiator

I have 97 a4 quattro and I would like to know what is the sensor in the radiator, it has three wires, also what does it do.

New owner just replaced clutch, seats, spark and wires. Other bits and pieces. Just got her for 600 not to bad looking for a 97. It needed and still needs some TLC but is running fairly well now. got her with an unbelievable 79800 is on her.

Default Thermo switch for the radiator fans

It lives in the radiator. Three wires one low speed and one high speed fans with a "hot" 12v. There are some different type thermo switches dependent on the coolant temperatures, outside operating environment and the thermostat. If you replace it use the same style with the same temperature settings.
