Audi A4 B8 8K 2.0 TFSI - Engine Repair, what do you think?
Recently I bought a car from a german dealer. When I arrived home, I noticed the high oil consumption, and decided to investigate on its cause. Here are the photos I made yesterday at the repair shop.
It has ~125k miles, year 2009, bought it for 9700USD. What do you think from the pictures below? Should I blame the dealer for selling a faulty car?

Mine probably looks much the same. It's in het shop for inspection under warranty. DI engines have issues with carbon buildup to start. Burning oil will only make it worse. What you see may be a symptom, not the cause. the cause is weak piston rings that are sensitive to small variations of cylinder machining, and frequently you get an engine that doesn't break-in properly and progressively consumes more and more oil through it's life.
You might take it to a reputable Audi dealer and push for them to warranty the new pistons and rings or even a complete engine. It's a known issue and there was a class action settlement. Audi I think genuinely wants to "get past this" and is stepping up even on higher mileage cars. However at $120k... you might be a bit past how far they'll go.
I did blame the dealer I bought it from, only because the consumption was so severe and they performed a CPO inspection, but didn't sell it CPO. I found out about this afterwards, but to me, it raises a big red flag that they knew about the issue. If they had sold the vehicle for maybe $1500-2000 less, then it would have been a fair risk/bargain.
However, legally, all vehicles are sold "as is".
