Cam follower
I have a 2006 a4 and I think i need to replace the cam follower. I have the Haynes manual but can't find it in the book. Does anyone know where to find the instructions in the book? Or anywhere online that gives me instructions?

Lots of different opinions around on this; some folks are checking/replacing every year; I will be checking mine about every 70,000 km (5 years based on my annual mileage). That's when I first replaced mine and it was wearing but not bad IMO.
My thinking for this is - the follower wears because it is in continuous contact with the cam. If you consistently drive your car with the engine running at high RPM's, vs someone like me who only does high RPM on occasions, your follower has been in contact with the cam for a greater "distance" than mine and hence you would expect it to wear more i.e if I drive at 3000 rpm and you drive at 6000 rpm you could be generating twice as much wear as me even though we may be driving the same road distance. I doubt the wear rate is as linear as I'm describing but trust you get my thought pattern.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. What a stupid design

Agree - Audi should have known about this in advance; they claim they fixed this for my year of vehicle but I don't think their modified follower has fully addressed the issue; ultimately it all boils down to cost and how long they design an engine and it's components to last.

There is an extended warranty on this and depending on your VIN/mileage your car might still be eligible - give Audi America a call with your VIN and see if you might actually still be covered.

Tried that at the dealership. Too many miles. I'm at almost 200k
