Excessive oil consumption with 2.0T engine

Class Action Lawsuit coming
Just wanted to share my experience and some interesting information...
I owned an '09 B8 A4 2.0T quattro up until last week. The car drove well and I faithfully performed oil changes every 5,000 miles with Liqui Moly 0W-40 (started with 5W-40, but they changed the North American formulation). Anyway, I kept my car in good condition, drove it over 89,000 miles in 5 years. I even had the car checked out for the oil consumption test around 37,000 miles, and it passed. I had the car checked for the TSBs, and the only thing not changed in my car were the pistons and rings.
My car started consuming 1 quart every 600 miles at about 86,000 miles. I had the car checked out by my trusted mechanic, and sure enough he said that my rings the issue. I had the car checked out by another European mechanic specialist, and he too told me the same thing. Both told me that the long-term solution at this point was a new engine.
Maybe because I was looking for an excuse, but also because I wasn't willing to pour tons of money into an Audi with almost 90K miles, I sold my car and got a 8V A3 2.0T quattro.
When I mentioned the oil burning to my local Audi Service manager, he took me outside and told me they have been instructed by Audi of America to play dumb about this. However, in actuality, AoA is preparing for a class action lawsuit over early model year B8s. He also told me that even though I got rid of my vehicle, it may still be worth it to me to make sure that I was the owner of record of my B8 (by contacting AoA and cross-checking with my VIN) so that I could be part of the class action, eventually.

My New Engine
At first, they told me it was my fault (my dealership is a 160 mile round trip, so I've been changing oil locally). Then, they told me it was normal. Then, of course, they told me (rightly) it was out of warranty. All through these encounters, they were kind of nasty about it.
But after about November 1, they became solicitous and proactive. Loaner cars for service which didn't exist were suddenly available. In rapid succession they did the oil consumption test, ordered pistons and rings, and after an internal inspection ordered a new engine from Germany, which is now installed under the hood.
It appears that something about the approach to this has changed. Maybe the lawsuit is making a difference?

Guys,
I'm having the same issue with my 2010 Q5 2.0T its using/burning a silly amount of oil. does anyone know how much its costs to get the repairs done from Audi or do they repair it for free as its a manufacturing issue i believe.
Thanks in advance.

I just got the settlement notification in the mail yesterday. I did have the stage 1 fix applied to my Q5 years ago. It still burns a quart of oil every 2K miles. It looks like the suit is just for reimbursement of out of pocket expenses. I have not had any but I don't know what the future for my Q5 is. It runs great.

I have a 2010 A4 Avant that we put very few miles on (26K highway, very few short trips). I think I have added two quarts of oil between changes (and always on long road trips), though the Audicare changes came around quickly due to low miles. I am worried that the consumption issue could develop after even the 8 years in the settlement when I may not even be at 50K miles. Any thoughts on getting Audi to do a proactive fix?

New 2.0 T engines
Would appreciate any comments from Audi mechanics out there on the issue for new 2.0 engines. I was originally going to purchase a 2005 A4 for my daughter a few years back but after reading about the issues and speaking with a few Audi mechanics I decided to pass. Well I'm now considering a new Q3 for my wife but it appears the oil issue may still be around.
Appreciate any thoughts on this or anything else about these engines.

Quite honestly, if the option is available (and you have the money), I'd say TDI is definitely the way to go. I'm planning to get an A7 3.0T TDI in the future.

After the oil consumption issue has been fixed by Audi, does that extend the original factory warranty? For example if something else were to happen to the power train, unrelated to the oil consumption (stage 2) fix, would the new 8 year 80k mile warranty cover the issue? Or is the extended warranty just to fix the oil consumption problem. thanks in advance. I asked the question to an Audi service guy and he said the extended warranty only covers the oil consumption fix. But the legal paperwork from Voltswagen reads differently to me.
