It's not normal. The car has only 27,000 miles and if it's under 8 years old insist then fix it by doing the full repair of pistons and rings.

This may have been covered already but wanted to mention approx 2010 to some early 2013 2.0T specifically Engine Code CAEB has a known issue with early piston ring failures causing heavy oil consumption. There was a Class Action Lawsuit regarding CAEB Oil Consumption. Suggest Internet search for "audi caeb oil consumption" when you have some spare time as there is a lot to read. I saw a 2010 A5 2.0T CAEB after 150,000KM could not drive more than 100KM without fouling a spark plug to the point of running on 3 cylinders, due to failed oil seal ring on one of the pistons. Only fix is a complete piston set replacement along with other suggested bits like chain guides while engine is out for bottom end rebuild.

Note - The issue with the CAEB engines began with the 2009s and supposedly extends through the 2012 model year. I've had 3 2009 CAEB engines repaired under warranty for the oil consumption issue (2 Premium sedans and a Premium Plus Avant). Just went after Audi to have the timing chain and tensioner replaced for reduced cost on two of the engines (wrecked the other car) since the two dealerships did not offer to replace the timing chain and tensioner kit for parts only cost at the time the oil consumption piston work was done. I also have a 2014 A6 with essentially the same CAEB engine but with 220 bHP and this is not supposed to have the oil consumption issue nor the timing chain/tensioner issue. I have 45k on the car and no issues to date. thanks -

In Canada we were told 2010 to 2012 yet a friend recently sold his 2013 Q5 2.0T with a CAEB engine code, and I had heard some 2009's especially in Europe shipped with CAEB engine. A VAG-COM scan will report the vehicle's engine code. Simply to confirm is your 2014 engine code CAEB? There are a few engine codes for the various 2.0T's over the years.
