General 2.0T Questions
I currently own an '02 Audi A4 with the 3.0 engine. It has a bent valve and needs a new cylinder head. I am thinking of trading it in for an '06 VW Passat with the 2.0T engine (~85,000). I believe this is pretty much the same engine Audi uses. I know in '06 Audi went from the 3.0 to 3.2 V6 and the 3.2 is far superior to the 3.0. My questions are:
Is the 2.0 more closely related to the 3.0 or the 3.2?
Generally how reliable is the 2.0T?
Does the 2.0 have a timing chain or timing belt?
Thanks.

Likely has a t-belt, but to be sure about the Passat engine you're considering, ask to see the engine code, which should be visible in one of these places:
1) the timing belt (chain?) shroud
2) sticker on the body near the spare tire well
3) sticker inside the front cover of the service booklet
Lots of Passat-specific into at passatworld.com
Our 2007 2.0T has been trouble-free for the last 35k miles (purchased @ 60k, now at 95k).
Ask for receipts to show proof of a t-belt change on the vehicle you're considering.
