Noob technical question: S3 engine differences from "normal" 2.0T?

Noob technical question: S3 engine differences from "normal" 2.0T?
Anyone got a handle on how Audi squeezes 290+ HP out of the S3 engine, vs. the 220 HP from the A4 engine? I'm totally new to Audi, and don't know if it is even the same basic engine.
The real question is: are there any relatively simple changes that could boost the A4 power levels, based on available S3 hardware? Turbo swap, chip re-program, fuel injector changes?
I realize I could have purchased an S4, but I've had many years experience with the VW 1.8T and really appreciate the balance of power vs. fuel efficiency that is offered by that engine. The V6 would be sweet from the power standpoint, but would be a constant irritation when gas prices head back towards 5$/gallon (and they will).
