I have a 2013 Audi s5.. I live in canada where temperatures in the winter reach -35 c... its been a fairly mild winter. I notice after a car wash, for a few weeks even, my cooling fans will come on full blast.... sometimes right when i start it (cold start), sometimes i unlock the door to grab something and as im reaching in the fans just start up and remain on for anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 mins. full blast!!
ive heard and read a few things about a cracked ecu housing and maybe a ect problem, but never had any issues after a couple weeks of it happening... "guess it dried itself out"?? i had ran a vagcom diag and nothing regarding the engine or cooling fans came up. then today after a fresh wash yesterday at an automatic touchless car wash, i went to grab something from inside, did not turn on or start up the car at all, just unlocked and reached inside, the fans came on again... full blast. i quickly did a scan as they were running and got a intermittent code from the engine, P048000, cooling fan 1 control circuit.
I love my car and am slowly learning how to do some things myself to help on costs.. in a tough spot rn. need some advice from someone with knowledge. could it just be a wet relay? i really dont think the ecu housing is cracked. i have looked but havent opened it yet.
