Default Octane

Now before we get going I fully recognize that the Audi manual and literature states premium octane is to be used on this motor. Now having said that, at higher elevation (Colorado) can you get away with less? Is it good practice? The dealer for my SQ5 says go for the low grade.... Possibly okay? I haven't been that brave yet.

The owners manual in my wife's 2016 SQ4 says that it is safe to use as low as 87 octane but that you will loose power...
That is pretty much the norm for modern engines optimized for higher octane fuels...
You may loose some fuel mileage too btw
