Default 97 Audi A6 2.8 V6 how to set engine timing

So here goes. I had the timing belt tensioner come loose upon start up one morning in my Audi. I never drove the vehicle once I heard the noises coming from under the hood. Once I removed all of the covers from the motor and discovered what had happened the vhicle wasn't driven. I tightened the timing belt tensioner back up and started the engine. No problem everything was still in time! Perfect! Now here's the problem. When the previous owner had the timing belt & water pump replaced, whomever did the repair they had stripped the 6MM allen bolt that holds the tensioner pulley tight, hence the obvious "vise grip" chew marks on the outside of the allen bolt. I purchased a new bolt for the tensioner and was set to replace it. Now here's where I think I screwed up. I had the timing belt tensioner out of the vehicle and I needed a little more room between the front of the Audi and my workbench in my shop. No biggie, just put the vehicle in neutral and push it back 3-4 feet. That's when I noticed my mistake. The timing gears on the heads appear to not be in time with each other now?!?! I HAVE NOT started the motor since I noticed what was going on. Does anyone know how to set the timing from scratch on these motors? Please help!!
