HELP! Need to lower subframe
Hello All,
I'm very new to this forum as you ca see <-----. i have a 2002 B6 A4 3.0. i'm doing a number of things simultaneously on her but one of the main tasks are a Alternator and Cat replacement. Alternator was easy, front clip is still in service position. But i've been trying to find a "how to" to lower the subframe (3") to get to the cats to R/R.
Main Questions Are;
1. What needs to be disconnected to lower subframe? (any parts of the suspension?)
2. Do i leave the motor mounts attached to the subframe since that needs to drop too?
3. Any special tools i might need? Besides the socket for the Co2 sensor
4. What needs to be done after everything is replaced? alinement?
5. any thing else i should know?
any help would be greatly appreciated. i cant seem to find anything online. they just talk about needing to lower the front subframe. but not how to do it.. lol
i'm not afraid of diffic

Still need help?
You must have some way to support the engine and transmission. Transverse bar on the engine and just a jack at the tail of the trans works best, an engine crane would work for the engine also just be in the way. Remove 13mm bolts from trans mounts to subframe. Then just remove the aluminum brackets the engine and swaybar are bolted to, and the rear subframe bolts/aluminum plates and let her hang, do what you need to do and re assemble, then get an alignment.
