voltage meter sky rockets?

Default voltage meter sky rockets?

I have a 2001 audi A4 2.8l b5, volts are reading 18 vlts can anyone tell me my issue?

The voltage regulator on the alternator has failed. Replace the alternator.

I recommend to find a bosch re manufactured unit. I have tried parts store alternators and i dont know why but for german cars they are total garbage. Its a rare day one actually lasted more than a drive or two. My friend cheaped out on her a4 and got a Napa reman and it lasted a month stopped charging...the second one lasted a week. I put one in a beetle because it was noisy and needed it same day. Lasted 2 miles. Second one. Lasted idling 5 minutes. Third one lasted another mile or so, then i returned it and got a bosch. Get a bosch alternator lol.
