The tumblehome is much greater in the B9 Allroad, than say in the Golf Sportwagen.

Thanks for expanding my vocab..."tumblehome", I never knew there was a word for this. The B9 does indeed have more of this than most "station wagons" I've ever seen. Definitely contributes to the sportiness to the slight detriment of its practicality. But, isn't that why we all went for an Audi instead of a Subaru?

I just compared the dimensions of my B9 Allroad that I have on order to my current '14 Jetta Sportwagen.

The biggest difference is the last set of figures, the Length at top of seat back to inside of lift gate. Here the Tumblehome seems to make the biggest impact.

From what I looked at when comparing my JSW to the MK7 GSW, the MK7 was even larger than the JSW. But in the end, the Allroad won out for other features. We may just have to bring a few less things with us camping.

WIDTH: tailgate approx. AR 39", JSW 40".

INTERIOR WIDTH approx. AR 39”, JSW 39 ¾" at base of wheel well.

HEIGHT: tailgate approx. AR 28.5", JSW 27" from lip to opening, JSW 29 1/4" from inside floor to top of the opening.

LENGTH: at seat base approx. AR 40", JSW 42“

LENGTH at seat top (with seats raised) approx. AR 25", JSW 33“.

This is why I'll be looking into some good good roof racks and boxes soon. I think that THULE XT looks promising. And again, those "other features" are exactly why this car is worth it. I'd rather have detachable cargo room and lower stance/sportiness when I want it; instead of just being stuck with a Q5's mass all the time. (And yeah, the 2018 SQ5 looks pretty awesome, but I still like the Avant-ness of the Allroad.)
