$12 A4
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forums, new to Audi's. A friend of the family had the timing belt fail on their '99 A4, and they were going to scrap it, so they gave it to me. Cost me $12 for the extra mileage to get AAA to tow it to my house.

She's really clean inside and out, other then a scrap on the front bumper. I have the bumper cover off now and I will be putting it in service position and pulling the head this weekend. I have read all the DIY's for head and timing belt, and its not my first rodeo.
Words of wisdom appreciated!

Sweet deal. Replace all the breather parts, PCV valve, ect while your in there. Make sure the turbo waste gate is not super loose or worn away, or even fallen off. Be sure you replace ALL the lifters, if your reusing the head and replacing the bent valves.

Good info thanks! I am all about fixing things right since I'm already in there.
When I started a similar thread on HondaTech about a $100 prelude I picked up, the advice given was to replace a list of parts a mile long. $12/$100 cars lose their inherent value very quickly when you need to replace $3000 in parts. I plan on getting a used but good head, headgasket kit, timing belt kit, head bolts, and now lifters. Get the car back on the road and enjoy my $500 car for a month or two before I sell for nice profit. The Prelude ended up costing about $1100, made it to a few autoX events, saved my but in a pinch when my other car broke down, and I sold it after 3 months for $3000.

Scrap prices are so low right now thanks to china, that I got $6.50 for the last car i took to the scrap yard myself, and the junkyards want 100 bucks to take a car. No wrecker would give 500 for a dead A4.
