1996 A4. Should it have a keyless remote? All I got were two keys.

Won't work with the 1996 A4s. They have a difference FCC ID than the switchblade remotes.
You'd have to upgrade parts of the keyless entry for them to work, namely the central locking computer.

If there's a control box under the rear seat buy some remotes of off E-Bay.
Otherwise your car doesn't have remote locking. As GilliamOS said the 96 and 97 remote locking are different systems.

My dealer wants like $150 for one FOB and even the old beat-up ones on Ebay go for too much. There's a keyless entry mod for the '96 A4 in the tech articles. It's cheaper and it works better than the original.

First half of the year I think don't have them and the module. Later half has a seperate remote
It works just like 5 ft from the car anyway. Might as well put a better alarm system in there

Maybe check with a VAG first to see if you can access the module. Or lift up the rear seat. Wait,
I forgot where the module is
It would be a wasted remote if the car has nothing to receive it.
