I have a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro, 2.8L V6, manual 5-speed CXW transmission that was making rattling sound while in neutral. Once the clutch is depressed, the noise get a little quieter. However, I can not get into 5th gear.

Upon removal of the transmission I found out this. I guess I am missing teeth on couple of gears. Anyone has these gears from rebuilt leftovers? Thanks. I assume they are damaged 5th gears?

I do not have a CXW trans rebuilt or not, but I do have a 5-speed Quattro trans pulled from a '99 A4 2.8 30V.

Thank you for the reply. I just pulled out the exact same transmission as yours this past Sunday. Took about 5 hours but it only cost $50. The person was from Craigslist locally and he just buy cheap Audi's to part them out quickly.

Interesting that there is a crank hall sensor on the top of the transmission where my CXW does not have one. Also, attempting to remove the slave cylinder broke the M10X1.25 bolt and had to drill out and re-tap threads. Hopefully it will all work when I finish with the exhaust repair and then put the transmission in.

Good luck m8. Glad you found one. I was saving this one as a spare for my '96, but I may just throw it on Craigslist.

Are you possibly wanting to sell your spare tranny? My beauty has been down 2 months now because of her sick transmission.. found a few at the local wrecking yards but no luck

The thought has crossed my mind. It is currently at my buddies house behind the garage. He has been cleaning house and scrapping everything.
