Default 2001 A4 1.8t Quattro Avant AWM - whine follows RPM

Yesterday, driving around engine developed a whine. It's not accessories because it sounds like it's coming from rear of engine lower. Parked car and swear I saw oil dripping, and not from engine pan. The computer is not complaining about ATF level (no engine codes) and the transmission seems to shift fine and engine seems to have normal power.

If the front differential leaks out it's oil would it develop a whine? Or is this a transmission issue? Transmission seems to be shifting fine and did not have any slipping while driving.

I have it parked on side of road and I'm 4 hours from home. I'm in Glenwood, CO on Memorial day. I need to get the car back to Fort Collins, CO.

With an abnormal sound like that coming from the rear of the engine, I don't feel like it would be a good idea driving it four hours through rockie mountain roads.

Anybody have any idea about what could be going on? It is possible that the car could have bottomed out on concrete yesterday right before this noise occurring. Seemed to come out of nowhere and after driving over some bad rutted concrete/blacktop roads.
