2001 Audi a4 (AWM) - Top Rear Engine Noise - New CCT.
Just replaced my CCT with a new OEM because the previous was allowing the chain to slap the valve cover when the car warmed up.
First start with the new CCT I let the car idle for about 15 mins with no change. The chain was still slapping the valve cover.
Removed valve cover and checked the tensioner to see if the chain is taught to the guide which it was.
Vag checked it with no CELs present.
Oil pressure cold is around 85-90psi which drops to around 20-25psi when warm/hot.
I did not use silicone on the gasket under the CCT and made sure the oil screen was not covered.
Voltage at the VVT solenoid is 8v at idle
I am clueless as to why it would still be slapping around and not holding pressure. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well blockage of the oil passage to the tensioner would be my first thought. Second thought would be not enough flow of oil. I have seen the oil pump pickup tubes on these packed full of debris and still show plenty of oil pressure. Pressure and volume are two totally different things. You may want to remove the oil pan and check things out.
