Im a noob so please go easy.....
I recently bought a 98 a4 quattro from a family member and as my luck would have it it only came with the key with the one big button on key for little flashlight. I would like to get a set of switchblade fobs and don't know where to begin on ordering one moneys kind of tight with it being so close to Xmas and with having a 6 yr old boy. If anyone knows how to find out which fob i need to order i would greatly appreciate it ... tried calling dealer and they dont want to tell me what the numbers that i would need on the inside of fob bc they want me to spend $280 to get just one key and cut it ,from what i have gathered is that it was a 2 button fob thst was sepetate from key. Dont know what numbers r tho. I'd appreciate any help or pointers. Thank you in advance

keyless entry was an option in 1998 so it might not have a fob. I'm in the same situation, just bought a 98 a4q with 1 big key.

Buy this, have it cut to yours, if they will, some places are jerks about cutting keys you provide, only a locksmith with a laser key cutter can do it. Worst case you call the dealer, have them cut you one. The Fobs separate from the key. So if you have to you can transfer the fob to a dealer key half. Then just program the fob with instructions easily found on google. The key half from the dealer are only like 65$ list price so not bad. I order them all the time so, make sure you specify ONLY the key half, not the fob. The fobs from them are insane, like 190$ or something. Thats why i get the ebay ones. They work fine.

All the "late" 98 A4s had keyless. you can tell and old and new style by Gauge cluster, late ones with be if you have the screen in the center like the 99-01 cars, if its a V6 it will be a 30v. Early ones will have the idiot lights in the center of the cluster, and the 12V V6. Im not sure the exact month of the split in the production date.
