Default A4 2.8q 0-60? 5spM vs.Automatic?

Is there really an over 1.5 second discrepancy in 0-60 times between the A4 2.8q 5sp manual and the automatic transmission as Audi claims? I'm considering buying an A4 2.8q and this seems like a huge difference. Please advise and help! Thanks.

The 5 speed is so fun to drive, even if there isn't a difference in 0-60, it sure feels like it.<p>98/2.8Q/Sprt

All deends on the driver and how good he is with a stick. Personally, if you want an automatic, buy a Chevy or Ford - you're missing the whole point of a fine German touring car.

Default I agree with Ray. A stick in the hands of a GOOD driver will usually outperform the auto.

Default Stick definately faster.

Of course, as already said, you must know how to use it, but, here are the 0-60 times pritned by Audi fo the 1998 2.8 models. Remember that every car and every driver is unique.<p>'98 2.8 FWD Stick 0-60= 7.1sec<br>'98 2.8 FWD Auto 0-60=8.2sec<p>'98 2.8 AWD Stick 0-60=7.4sec<br>'98 2.8 AWD Auto 0-60=8.8sec<p>With Tiptronic you might be able shave off about 2/10 of a second, but remember that the car is still slaved to the torque converter (which robs potential torque) and launches will be affected by this.<br>

Default Sticks are ALWAYS faster (except manumatics like the Ferrari F1 transmission).

Also, the new Benz SLK manual is not faster, but equal to the automatic in performance. Other than that, sticks ALWAYS faster.<p>Christian J. Long

Get stick, more fun to drive. Hehe. I love stick shift, you'll like it. It doesn't make a HUGE difference in a straight line, but when you race up the mountains ... stick makes a difference.. hehe<p>~Prelude SH (need stick 'cuz got no low end torque...sigh... but gotta love the VTEC!)

Default Hey look at that, our numbers are the same! Except you have 2.8Q stick as 7.1 and I have it as 7.4.
