A4 2.8q 0-60? 5spM vs.Automatic?
Is there really an over 1.5 second discrepancy in 0-60 times between the A4 2.8q 5sp manual and the automatic transmission as Audi claims? I'm considering buying an A4 2.8q and this seems like a huge difference. Please advise and help! Thanks.

Stick definately faster.
Of course, as already said, you must know how to use it, but, here are the 0-60 times pritned by Audi fo the 1998 2.8 models. Remember that every car and every driver is unique.
'98 2.8 FWD Stick 0-60= 7.1sec
'98 2.8 FWD Auto 0-60=8.2sec
'98 2.8 AWD Stick 0-60=7.4sec
'98 2.8 AWD Auto 0-60=8.8sec
With Tiptronic you might be able shave off about 2/10 of a second, but remember that the car is still slaved to the torque converter (which robs potential torque) and launches will be affected by this.
Get stick, more fun to drive. Hehe. I love stick shift, you'll like it. It doesn't make a HUGE difference in a straight line, but when you race up the mountains ... stick makes a difference.. hehe
~Prelude SH (need stick 'cuz got no low end torque...sigh... but gotta love the VTEC!)
