A4 in Australia

A4 in Australia
After having driven Japanese / Australian cars all my life, to switch to an Audi A4 (last week) is like being upgraded to First Class from Economy. The plush leather finish, driving feel and visual effect is stunning. In Australia the standard A4TQ is A$59,000 (1US$ = 1.7A$), which is approx the same price you would pay for a no frills BMW 318i (4 cyl, 1.9L, 0-60 in 11 sec, and not sold in USA). The BMW 323 4 door sedan costs A$70,000 which is a hefty whack compared to the A4. In Australia the BMW has a prestige value second only to Mercedes Benz and this trait is because of the English class conscious heritage of Australia. The Audi is better than BM's to those in the know but still 3rd ranked to the uninitiated but fast catching up as the social complexion changes.(About 5000 cars are sold here per year).
The A4 also attracts unwanted attention and I had a tyre slashed at the local Shopping Centre on Day 3. Cost A$ 415 for Michelin 205/55/16. Still spewing!
This forum is great and you all sound like a highly devoted bunch of A4 addicts. Please make room for one more!

Yo...and N Z too!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah...there are A4 fans in N Z too....prices about the same as $A converted to $NZ...best thing about it here is that we see the new models before they get to the States for some reason, and because we aren't so hung up on emissions our models (which are the same as OZ models) have more boogie...eg. 2000 A4tq 180 hp

Re: A4 in Australia
Hi,
Another new convert to Audi. Having just upgraded
from a Holden Commodore ( GMH in the USA). No
comparison.
Driving a new A4 Turbo Tip with sports pack.
Only problem is you get ***** in hotted up Suzuki Swifts trying to burn you off at the lights. Unfortunately the A4 leaves them choking on rubber
Great forum.
