Default Air Bag Control Module Question

From reading around the A4 forum, I believe I need a new ABCM as I have the following code (2001 A4 Quattro 2.8 30v):

Address 15: Airbags Labels: 8D0-959-655-AI8.lbl
Part No: 8D0 959 655 G
Component: Airbag Front+Kopf 1002
Coding: 00304
Shop #: WSC 06435
VCID: 3A70D6B6260255F161F-515A

1 Fault Found:
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-10 - - - Intermittent

I have visually verified my part number 8D0 959 655 G, Audi calls the part number out as 8D0 959 655 TA. I am having a difficult time locating a used working module, with either of those two part numbers. Are there any other modules that are compatible? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 A6 2.7 that came with an airbag memory fault. I wrote about it somewhat exhaustively on the C5 discussion thread. You should be able to find it by searching my name and airbag control modules. I believe much of the info is the same for the B5. Long story short, I have found the $20 Chinese black box fix to be quite satisfactory. I am also in the Denver area. You are welcome to meet me and we can see if it will work on your problem. But please read my posts first.

Hello Clancy,

I read through your thread, and I am certainly interested in resetting that module. Like you I was under the impression that it could not be done and the module was toast. How long since your last reset? I am in Fort Collins and would be interested in meeting to see if mine is salvageable.

Thanks ........... Brian

I have had to reset it about 4 times maybe 5 over the last 2-3 years. It is simple, takes only 3 minutes. First time lasted nearly a year. Now the airbag light comes on whenever it is below maybe 10 degrees F. Each reset lasts until the next cold spell.

I am located in the hills west of Denver. Glad to meet you in Lakewood. Although, if your problem has the same symptoms and trouble codes as mine then you may just want to buy the device. Cost has gone up to $33 but when you consider the time and gas to come to Denver and back it may be a wash.

Call me at 303-697-5095 if you want to meet.

This is the device I bought and the same supplier. Just Google:
VAG OBD2 II Airbag Crash Resetter Tool for Audi VW from Tmart.com
You are welcome to try mine and then order it if it works. Or just order it.
Call if you wish.

Hello Clancy,

I bought the resetter tool from tmart, would not clear out the airbbag reminder on my car. It was worth trying at the low cost of the tool. Now I am settled into finding a replacement module. Thanks for the suggestion though

Sorry to hear that. The directions are kind of funny. Did you try all different combinations?
