Anatomy of a leaking high-pressure power steering hose:

You're trying to seal off the area that's leaking. Hopefully, if it can be sealed well enough...
fluid stops leaking and the system pressure returns to normal. You just have a pocket of fluid buried between the inner and outer sheath on the hose.

yeah, when I first got a price on that hose I thought they dipped it in gold!
I had the same issue with mine, but it was leaking on the end by the curly cue... real PITA to install, and I was even doing the rack at the same time!

No kidding. I kept putting it off and putting it off....
...continually adding fluid, climbing under to see if I could figure out where it was coming from, adding more fluid -- I just wasn't 100% sure that was the problem. Finally, I got tired of ordering fluid (that sh*t is expensive too!) and took the chance hoping that was the culprit. Whew.

yeah, mine was leaking at both ends...
so dripping on my valve cover and dripping around the curley cue... so it was pretty apparent.
I now drive around with a quart of oil and a big bottle of p/s fluid at all times :-P

High pressure power steering line question
Hi, I have a 2004 A6 Avant with a 3 liter V6. I've got a leak at the steering rack in my power steering system. I'm wondering if you have any advice on how to get to it so I can take it apart and repair it?
Thanks,
John
