Default Can anyone help me rid my car of a sunroof?

I would like to have it look very clean and stock, and I for sure don't want to have to worry about the "sunroof" leaking. Did our cars ever come without sunroofs? Would it be possible just to find the roof insert from a car without a sunroof and sway them? It would be great if I could lose the weight of the sunroof. Any help would be great, thanks.

P.S. Has this mod ever been done before? How much weight can I expect to save by losing the sunroof?

Default aehm... cars with sunroof have the whole CUT into their cars there are no kits

weight saving? maybe 40lbs or so if at all.. more a hassle than worth the work. one of the induktion cars had the sunroof removed and a custom cf into its place.. custom made and custom $$$$ big time as well.

Default sure, talk to a body shop.

weld in sheet metal, sand, and paint it.

get the interior liner for an A4 without a sunroof, if having the slider for it bugs you.

Default Would I be able to find a whole roof section from a car that didn't have a sunroof?

I could put that in place of my room section. Yes/No?

not without a lot more work than just welding in a new piece for the hole that was cut.

Sounds good, It would be nice to save 40 lbs or so from the very top of the car.

Default Keep in mind that you will devalue the car.

And you will have to fix the headliner inside and lots of things to fix to make it look like it never existed. Whats wrong with just leaving it shut?

Default if you have a shop and enough time and work like a pro maybe

ive seen that done in germany once where they cut 2 cars apart with nearly identical chassis numbers. one of the cars had some roof damage and they cut the roof off and welded the one from the other car back in but it was more of a hassle than worth anything

Default I just had my whole roof sheet metal replaced as well as...

...the rear pass quarter panel along with the area to the outside of the rain gutter that's one piece with that quarter panel, and the polished Al window trim (30v V6).

The total bill came to $1700 and some change, at a reputable local body shop, that's usually on the higher end of the price spectrum. I'd guess that to replace just the roof sheet metal shouldn't be more then $1000. Then there's the new headliner price to factor in, as well as little bits and pieces (new overhead console with no sunroof switch, etc...)

FYI, for your reference.
