Default Clutch change now car wont start

I think I know what the issue is I just wanted to get your guys advice/opinions.

While I was trying to line the dowels and the input shaft in, the transmission slipped from the the jack a little bit and came down on a sensor that seems to measure the teeth on the flywheel what is this sensor called? And will it cause the engine to crank endlessly and not start?

1996 Audi B5 A4 5 speed fwd.

Location of sensor is driver side about half way to 3/4 of the way to the top of the transmission.

Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor, and yes if it is damaged the engine will not start. You might want to read the codes and verify, if I remember correctly you will need to clear the code before the engine will run once you replace it.
