A4 in FF

All the research I've done shows part number 4DO 035 225 Bose amp from the D2 A8 is a direct plug and play upgrade in a B5 A4 with the existing Bose system. I bought one off ebay from an auto recycler, with a warranty, for $40. I was excited to install it only to find that only the drivers door speakers and the rear deck woofers worked. I contacted the seller and they told me it's not a direct swap and they have had several people try to do this and fail. They told me it requires "the correct speakers to be installed as well". I have a fair amount of aftermarket audio system experience and to me that makes no sense. Can anyone chime in with experience they have with this swap? To me it seems like I'm being fed a line. I can return it, and will, but I want to be sure I'm right before I send it back and request a replacement.

When I get some time today or tomorrow I will look at wire diagrams and see whats different, You may need to just swap around a few wires.
