Help please! 1999 A4 1.8t quattro, crazy electrical problems
Any B5 A4 owners here want to help with one hell of a difficult problem (for me, at least) or send me in the right direction?
Typical issues related to main relay / ignition switch (no dash mileage, no headlamps, signals, AC) then it stopped cranking a few days later. Now the alarm goes off and funky things happen with the doors when I go to crank it. I replaced the ignition switch and have gotten slightly more stuff to happen (wipers moved...once) and the ignition feels like it used to, but still no crank or windows or headlamps.
My buddy with a tricked out A4 suggested checking brown wires going to the grounding post, but that might as well be German to a layman like myself.
I can follow directions and stuff (civil engineer by trade) but I'm broke as hell and can't afford to take it to the Stealership ~30mi away...any takers? TIA

What your buddy is trying to tell you is when there are multiple simultaneous problems, start with the common points. So the battery has a negative terminal, the cable from the negative terminal is bolted to the car body. Follow the cable and check the lead is clean and still tightly fixed the the body of the car. Then you will find a few other studs on the bodywork with multiple brown wires. These are the negatives from different electrical modules etc that should also be clean and tight. If one of these studs has come loose you will experience multiple failures that you mentioned. This is a 'no cost' start to diagnosing your problem.
