How often should I change my oil?
I have a 1999.5 A4 2.8 and I drive 90% highway miles. Anyhow... I used to have a car that I changed the oil every 3000 miles. I saw somewhere that it's 5000 for this car, is that correct or is that probably something I shouldn't do? Also, if I change it myself what kind should I put in it?
Thanks

When I bought my car a week ago (99.5 A4 1.8T)....
...the dealer (non-Audi) told me that it should be changed every 2500 miles because it does not take a lot of quarts to fill it up. Is this correct or is he completely wrong?....plus, whould changing my oil that often do any damage or make the engine run different?
thanks,

The reason I asked this question is...
...I've never in my life went over 3000 miles in a car before changing the oil, so this whole 5000 miles concept is hard for me to grasp. This is my first German car and I was just wondering if it will hurt the car to change it every 5000, or if changing it at 3000 or 5000 really makes no difference (I don't race people, nor do I drive hard or accelerate fast, although there are RARE occurances) It's a serious question though, and I thought if anyone should know what I should do it would be an enthusiast... geez... water, how ridiculous.

2500? Dunno about that. I usually change mine between 3 and 5, never more than 5k
If you change it somewhere in there, and always use synthetic (mobil 1 is the brand of choice for most) then you'll be ok.
