How to remove shifter trim on an '01 A4 B5

Default How to remove shifter trim on an '01 A4 B5
Hello all!
I am looking to replace my shifter **** and boot, but am unsure of how to go about replacing the boot. My question is, do I need to remove the trim piece A or B as in the attached photo? If I have to remove B, how do I go about getting it out?

pull up on the front edge of it, and it will pop up, then pull towards you to slide it out, unscrew the shift **** and take the whole thing out.
