I guess I'll never be caught speeding on the highway LOL
Hey guys, I just registered today and coincidentally, I bought my first Audi last night! haha!
any way, I bought a 1998 A4 wagon, awd, 5 speeed, V6 (freekin love it so far)
I got the car for a really good deal so I'm not too worried that it came with some issues. but, I would like to start fixing these things as soon as possible.
the issue I am most concerned about is the speedometer. I downloaded a speedometer app to get me around for now but, that is temporary.
so, currently the speedometer is accurate and appears to work fine below 57 mph. the needle doesn't move above that regardless of the actual speed of travel. when i slow down below 57mph the needle falls and acts normally.
I searched the site and couldn't quite find the same issue addressed but, I assume i need a new instrument panel cluster.
am I right, wrong, way wrong?
if it is a cluster, where do you veterans suggest i buy a new cluster for a good price? My funds are relatively limited at the current time.
thanks in advance

You need a new instrument cluster for sure to fix the speedo. It does send the speed signal to the cruise module. But if the cruise still doesnt work once you fix the speedo issue. 99% of the time is the actual module. Its located behind the glovebox its silver. Send it to module masters to be rebuilt, costs like 60 bucks or something. Worked on both my A4 and my A6. They use the same cruise module.
