my dash wire harness is fried help with comparable harness
I have a 01 2.8 a4 b5 audi
Any help would go a long way.
My wiring harness is fried short under passenger seat and over dash not good at all car still runs.
What wire harness can I use to replace.
Can I use a a4 1.8 harness out of a a6 and what years r comparable with the 01 a4 2.8 series.
Any help would be great thanks
P.s heated seats she has the 3rd Gen cluster gages.

Have you ever tackled a wiring harness job before?
What is the extent of the damage?
I would suggest that you source a donor vehicle with a fully intact harness. I am pretty sure that most 2000 and 2001 model years will have fully compatible harnesses. As for A6 harnesses... I wouldn't try.
If you can't find an '00 - '01 you may be able to use a '99 harness. Most of the connections should be the same with a few exceptions (like the instrument cluster). I found this thread, on this site, that does an excellent job explaining the differences and how you can make the necessary changes to make them work.

Of course, the best bet would be your model year in your VIN range for maximum compatibility.

I can't answer your question about the A6 with authority, but in my experience, different models (different chassis) will equate to different harnesses. Even if they have comparable equipment. Harness lengths will be different, routing different, even standard connectors can be different.
I do not have much experience with the A6, and have even used some A6 parts on my A4, but if I were to do a major harness swap, I would definitely go with an A4 donor. To use computer terminology... It will be Plug-n-play.
Now, if you are up to the task, you could rebuild your current harness, but the gist I got from your initial post is that you want it to be a relatively simple swap.
