New Radar Detector Champion (more)
Check out the latest radar detector showdown on radartest.com.
All of the Valentine-1 desciples on this board will be shocked to find out that the V-1 placed third among the 4 top of the line radar detectors tested.
The new Escort 8500 was first (97 points out of 100)
The Bel 980 was second (94 points out of 100)
The V-1 was third (77 points out of 100)
A remote K-40 unit was last (39 points out of 100)
I personally purchased the Bel 980 recently for $220 and it performed magnificently on a recent high speed NYC-Miami run.
For everyone considering dropping $400 (plus) for the V-1 (IMO, a big, clunky, heavy, hard to mount, harder to conceal unit), there are now some lower priced options that may be better.

RadarTest.com

I await Mike's next upgrade/revision! :)
All I care about is how well it works. I've owned nothing that finds radar as well as my big ugly V1.
I don't own any of the other detectors tested but I have had earlier Bel's and a Passport Solo.
I wouldn't expect the V1 to stay out of the top spot for long. The current V1 has seen three or four upgrades over it's life. Usually the upgrade costs about $150 and includes all new internals.

sorta... depends on what you want...
sure, like every test it has been in, the V1 loses at stuff like ergonomics, convience features, etc. It rarely gets bested at the real deal, radar and laser detection.
on that note, you will notice that the V1 got 44/50 on the radar test (bested by the excort @ 50/50) and laser 9/10. If you look at only thos scores, the V1 got a score of 53/60 compared to the 57/60 for the escort. Yes, not the best, but close enough. I haven't read the whole thing yet.
certainly interesting though...

Yet they have time & money to have their site hosted. And even more money & time to conduct in-epth tests, and disseminate the result of said tests. All for nothing in return? I don't get it.
