Default Quick question.... how do you remove the knee bolster?

My '98 A4 Avant's lights just went out. The parking lights work and there is no alarm so I am under the asumption that the relay went bad. I know the relay is under the bolster, but I want to know the best way to remove it. Any "trick" to it, without damaging clips?

I thank you in advance.....

Default There are just bolts holding it on under the little tab/plugs on each side of the wheel and

there is another one on the bottom inner corner, as well as one down low behind the fuse panel access door by the drivers door.

They are 8mm (5/16")

Then just pull gently - there are some glide/tabs on the bottom and some hooks on the top, it should come easy.

You'll need to unplug the OBD port as well as some cars have a light bulb for your foot area.

Remember exactly how it goes in there. It can be a bear to get back in.

Default Yes, one behind fuse panel, then remove the two smooth strips on the face of the bolster

The strips just pull out, and there is a bolt behind each of them.

There are some metal supports than easily bend behind the dash, make sure they're good. And when re-installing, the whole bolster unit has a lip up near the footwell, that slides into a holder mounted on the firewall.

Easy once you get under there and peek.

Bill.

Default It sure is...

I still haven't gotten mine to go back in the way it was before -- everything's tightened up, but the top of it isn't tight to the trim like it was before. I'm at wits' end trying to get it right.

Thanks - would you agree that my problem is the headlight relay?

I got fed up and ripped the black plastic off of mine thinking it was a separate piece from the upper portion. Just called the dealer..$529 for the part.
