$540 labor to replace oil pan (A4 1.8 turbo convertible)
My car is a 2005 Audi A4 1.8 turbo Cabriolet convertible, automatic transmission.
The following information is applicable to Audi 2002-2006 1.8 turbo engines, and many other Audi & VW engines for other years.
I accidentally ran up onto a concrete "stop" in a parking lot. My aluminum oil pan impacted the concrete "stop", which ripped a hole in my oil pan. My engine continued running normally as the oil flowed out of my oil pan onto the parking lot. My "Oil Level Indicator" warning light came ON in the dashboard within a few seconds, so I turned OFF my engine off to avoid damaging the engine.
I was within 3 miles of my mechanic's shop, so my friend used a tow-strap to tow me (less than 30mph with my transmission in neutral) to the shop.
Here are the items I ordered on EBAY, as recommended by my mechanic:
$ 58 New aluminum oil pan aftermarket (incl shipping)
15 Used plastic oil baffle (between crankshaft & oil pan) (incl shipping)
20 New FelPro oil pan gasket (incl shipping)
10 New gasket where turbo oil return-line connects to oil pan (incl shipping)
-----
$ 103 Total Parts
+ 540 labor ($90/hour X 6 hours)
------
$ 643 Total Cost
+ 15 Oil & Filter from WalMart (4.3 quarts as per owner manual)
+ 15 Oil & Filter from WalMart (Flushed engine with new oil/filter after 5 min)
-------
$ 673 Total Cost
Yes, my mechanic had my car up on a rack to safely work underneath.
Yes, my mechanic had to "make" a 5mm Allen extension for the 2 rear bolts.
Yes, my mechanic had to loosen/remove engine mounts to "jack-up" engine.
My mechanic charges $75/hour when he buys the parts, and adds a profit.
My mechanic charges $90/hour when I supply the parts.
