S4 vs A4 probs.
So I'm looking for a new car and really want a b5 s4 avant. However I keep hearing about the timing belt issue and how that can be very pricey and this could happen at any moment. But does this only happen with the s-line? Would it be safer getting the 1.8t, 2.0t or the 3.0 a4 avant? Do they have the same issues ?

The Timing Belt is a common thing on all Audi cars. Most people say you should have them replaced every 60k miles. But Ive seen people go more up to about 100k. I personally will have mine done every 60k as its better safe then sorry. The thing you have to really look at for the 2.7T Sline is the cost of turbo replacement on that car as its really expensive as the motor has to be removed to get the turbos out and replaced.

I don't believe turbo replacement is that common. However, if you do not use synthetic oil and change it regularly (3000-8000 miles depending on use) and you run the car hard when cold or run hard and shut off before cooling then maybe. Audis are performance cars and need to have routine maintenance as expected. Steering/suspension components are more costly and need replacement more frequently than non performance vehicles. If you appreciate the performance expect to pay for it. Otherwise buy a Honda or Toyota.
