Default searched and couldn't find a definite answer..do i need an alignment after changing tie-rods?

i'm getting an alignment right and they said that i need new tie-rods. they said they could do the tie-rods for me for $250..but i'd rather just do it myself. but would i need to get another alignment after that?

Default When I installed new tie rods I counted the exact same number of threads but alignment was still off

so yes you need an alignment.

Default If you do them yourself...

you might find that the factory put the thread locker stuff on the tie rod threads and not the jam nut. On my 1999.5, it was a PITA to break the tie rod loose, because of that.

As for alignment, I used a $12 tool from Harbor Freight, to verify that "just a little" toe-in was set in (of course this is after setting the tie rod ends so that the steering wheel was centered perfectly).

Tool link

Another thing, replacing the Tie Rods ends ONLY effects the Toe (as in toe-in or toe-out)

I used digital calipers when installing mine. No alignment needed.
