I have a stock b5 a4 1.8t with a tiptronic. i was wondering how safe it is to mod with the auto trans, and what path should i go for more power without blowing up the tranny

I've been researching this quite a bit over the past week, we just bought a 2005 B6 1.8T Tiptronic and the wife said she wants a bit more punch. I was also concerned about the tranny being able to hold any power increase.
From what I gather the weak point is the torque converter on the automatics. However, people seem to be going with a Stage 1+ (235hp/275tq) without any issues. I don't know at what point the torque converter fails.
If you're not looking for anything too drastic (ie big turbo etc), an ECU flash Stage 1 or 1+ is easy and affordable.
In the end I decided on Motoza stage 1+ ($389), along with 710N diverter valve ($40-50) and Bosch 440cc injectors ($150).
Other tunes available are from APR, Unitronics, etc,
I liked the Motoza because of the remote tuning and the price is lower than some of the other big names.
What's your budget / goals?

what you decided on is about what im interested in. my budget is around $1000 to $1500, so what you did is what im going to look into. i thought it would be way more expensive than that tbh.
But my overall goal is to gain as much speed and power as i can while retaining daily drivability (and not grenading my tranny). no big turbos or anything i just want more speed than it has now, cause my 1.8t is heavily lacking in the acceleration department.
tl;dr = I want to accelerate faster and not blow up my transmission.

Chris,
Keep in mind the same options that are available for the B6 chassis are not available for the B5. I don't believe Motoza supports the B5 chassis and APR, Unitronic etc only list a Stage 1 upgrade, which is a re-flash on stock engine (including stock injectors).
I also have a 99 A4 1.8T, manual transmission, and just ordered a re-flashed ECU from a guy named k0mpresd on Audizine (he is affiliated with Reflect Tuning :: Home). His tune doesn't call for upgraded injectors and is in the $250 range, and will increase HP by about 50 (160 to about 210). The ECU is en-route so I will update in a week or so on how it performs. You'd have to touch base with him to determine the compatibility with the auto trans.
This option would leave you with $ for other mods, like suspension etc.
