Stereo interchange
Hi all
I have a 97 and a 98 parts car, are the stereos interchangeable? They both have the 6 disc changer in the trunk. The 97 has the power button on the left and the 98 has the power button in the middle. It just seems the 98 works much better. I do have security codes for both units.

Small wiring differences, and the changers are specific to the head units. Alpine for the Delta and Panasonic for the Concert I . Changers are not interchangeable and the plugs are different
You can install a Concert I from the 98 in the 97. You need to add a K-line diagnostic wire to the loom and use VAG.com to configure the head unit.
The entire cable loom for the changer will have to be moved. Or forget about it and install an Ipod/ MP3 adapter.
Search, I made several posts on this many years ago.
