Default Thermostat stuck in open position, A4 1998 V6 2,4 165hk automatic

Hi!

My Audi A4 V6's Thermostat has been stuck in the open position for about a year now iguess (coolant temperature drops to 60, or lowest possible while going downhill). Since it is norwegian winter here now, its really hard to get her warm...

I bought a thermostat because i believed it to be at a not too horrid spot but.
Iguess my question is:
Is the V6 thermostat really ALL THE WAY inside the engine together with the timing belt/water pump? Or is it located practically?

I have not found a proper answer surfing online...
Placing the thermostat there would be a really evil thing to do...

Thankfull for any help what so ever!

Yes, it is in that spot. If you haven't changed the belts and other items yet, now is a great time to do it. If you have and the thermostat wasn't replaced at that time, well....
